Hello. First I'll introduce myself seeing as this is my first post. My names Ben I live in the Staffordshire region and I brought my puma around May last year.
I'm normally searching for my next car by this point. However I have fallen head over heels in love with my puma so I have decided to turn it into a fast road runner whilst keeping it looking fairly stock.
I have a good knowledge of cars but not so on the mechanical side of things and I'm not 100% on carrying out work either so expect to see me asking plenty of questions and for help from those who are willing to give it.
It's a standard 1.7 in silver and the 9 spoke alloys.
I intend to do the following:
Upgrade the speakers
Upgrade the air intake (probably frp airbox)
Upgrade manifold and exhaust with a catback system.
Upgrade brakes
Give it a damn good service
I have already upgraded the headunit and the above is just to get me started for now. Oh and also some ap coilovers too.
I will be attempting all of this as cheap as humanly possible.
I look forward to hearing from you all soon and hopefully meeting some of if not all of you as well. Any input is welcome. Even if it is just to say hi
I will upload pictures when I can as well.

No project can be done cheaply if you want a decent job done />
Good luck with your plans. Whats more interesting is that today is 06/02/14 & you joined up in 5 days time, (11/02/14)

Hi
Given age of car start with a service, replace bushes and brake fluid and then see how it feels.

Hi guys thanks for the hellos. I appreciate no project is a cheap one. Just that if I can keep any costs down then I will be. Thanks HappyKat for the starter tips I think I'll follow through on that advice. I was thinking about getting the powerflex bushes with frp bushes for the rear that pumaspeed do? Then obviously I'll need to find out how to fit them or some assistance first. I have been thinking about just using the normal ford bushes though 1. Because of cost and 2. I don't want to firm things up to the point of the car being uncomfortable. Any thoughts or previous experience?

For longevity make sure you keep the oil topped up, check every few weeks (not months!) until you get a feel for how much it does / doesn't use. Also think about getting cam belt changed as well unless you have evidence it was done in the last 2-3 years.

Thanks Turby oil consumption appears to be fine but I regularly keep an eye on it. Cambelt and water pump was done just before I bought it so no issues there. (Hopefully) I did have to sort the rocker gasket out. And otherwise the only change I've made is the headunit! Thanks for all the input so far guys. All information is welcome.

The wiki has many articles that cover what you need to do.
Was the tensioner changed as well as the belt?
Power flex bushes are harder but the rear beam one is easier to fit as a bench press is not needed.
